Visit of EU partner, Prof Andrea Biondi, University of Milano-Bicocca, Milan, Italy. Prof Biondi is head of the M. Tettamanti Research Center for leukemia and hematological diseases of children and also head of S. Verri Cellular and Gene Therapy Laboratory, Hospital S. Gerardo, Monza. Furthermore he is the chairman of SIOP (International Society of Pediatric Oncology) Europe. Prof Biondi has visited IMGGE, Laboratory for Molecular Hematology. He has checked the new equipment bought for HISERBS project. Partner 3 team and Prof Biondi have discussed important issues regarding Real -Time PCR (RQ PCR) methodology for detection of minimal residual disease of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), as well as RQ PCR evaluation the CML patient’s response to imatinib. Prof Biondi has also attended the Project Committee Meeting and has suggested his engagement in introducing quality control assessment within HISERBS project. Prof Biondi has given two lectures during his stay in Belgrade: Cellular Immunotherapy in Leukemia (IMGGE) and Molecular Basis of Childhood Leukemia (XV/I Congress of Pediatric Hematooncology in Serbia). Prof Momcilo Jankovic (Hospital San Gerardo, Monza, Italy) and Prof Jan Stary (Department of Pediatrics, University Hospital Motol, Praha, Czech Republic) have accompanied Prof Andrea Biondi. Date: Apr 2008
IMGGE has organized the visit of EU partner, Prof George P. Patrinos, Erasmus MC, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, MGC-Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Prof Patrinos is a head of Pharmacogenomics Group, Erasmus MC, Rotherdam. Furthermore he is the Editor of Haemoglobin. Prof Patrinos has visited IMGGE, Laboratory for Molecular Hematology. Prof Patrinos has given two lectures during his stay in Belgrade: Transcriptional Regulation of the Human beta-like Globin Genes and Locus-specific and National/Ethnic Mutation Databases in the Post-genomic Era. Date: May 2008 As a part of the activities under EC FP6 project HISERBS Institute for Application of Nuclear Energy INEP held Open Day dedicated to Serum Tumor Markers on May 8, 2008. at 11.00 – 14.00 at INEP.
Date: May 2008 Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE), Belgrade and Institute of Medical Research (IMR), Belgrade have organized an Open Day dedicated to Molecular Markers in Diagnostics and Follow-up of Hematological Malignancies. The Open Day was held at the IMGGE, on May, 28th, 2008. The meeting of Hematology Section of the Serbian Medical Association was held at the same time. The HISERBS project results were presented on that meeting.
Date: December 2008 Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Biology, University of Athens, Panepistimiopolis, Athens, Greece is one of the EU partner institution of the HISERBS Project, with Prof Andreas Scorilas, as its representative. Prof Andreas Scorilas has recently visited IMGGE, Belgrade, in order to discuss with the group of Dr Sonja Pavlovic, the scientific results of the collaborative work and the publication of the data obtained.
Date: November 13-15, 2008. Belgrade HISERBS project achievements have been presented at the Meeting “45th Oncology Week” , organized by Oncology Section of the Serbian Medical Society.

The visit to INEP by Richard Harvey, PhD, Charing Cross Hospital, London, UK, Department of Medical Oncology Laboratory, June 14-21 2009. The Department of Medical Oncology of the Charing Cross Hospital, London, has become one of the most significant EU collaborators for INEP, whose interest lies specifically in the field of serum markers for malignant diseases. Department of Medical Oncology Laboratory is a very busy lab since it is a UK reference laboratory for gestational trophoblast diseases (GTDs), among other malignancies. GTDs are being monitored by the presence of serum hCG. Dr Richard Harvey came to INEP as a representative of the Department of Medical Oncology Laboratory, being a person involved in managing and running the laboratory and with considerable practical experience in the tests being used as part of the dayly routine.
